COURSES OFFERED BY BIATHLON ALBERTA

Biathlon Alberta typically hosts one officiating course per year, based upon geographical need and the training status of officials in a particular area. Refer to the table below for a list of courses.

At least 15 years of age
Working official, under supervision but may perform minor supervision
ADVANCED / SILVER
14 hours

1 Year as Basic with at least 5 competitions with at least one in all functional groups. Biathlon Canada selects

Senior organizational position - such as Chief, Officer, Supervisor.
TECHNICAL DELEGATE (TD) / GOLD
14 hours

2 years as an Advanced Official with at least 5 competitions. Biathlon Canada selects

Division/National TD and Referee, Senior organizational position.

SPECIALITY QUALIFICATIONS
INSTRUCTOR
14 hours
Access from Advanced or TD. Biathlon Canada selects
Instructor for officials courses (must be TD to instruct TD Course)
LEADER
14 hours
Access from Advanced or TD. Biathlon Canada selects
The course teaches basic leadership skills for use in all roles
INTERNATIONAL (IBU) QUALIFICATIONS
INTERNATIONAL REFEREE (IR)
18 hours
National Official for 4 years and must be nominated by Biathlon Canada
IR and Chief positions at IBU events
INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL DELEGATE (TD)
22 hours
Access from IR, selection by IBU into TD Group
TD or IR at Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, and other IBU events
